FEBRUARY’S MEETING DEMONSTRATOR: DAVID THOMSON TITLE OF DEMONSTRATION: “IT’S THAT MAN AGAIN”

It was lovely to see so many of you for our first get together of the New Year, and many new faces too. It has seemed like such a long break from the last meeting it was lovely to get back to all things flowery and meet up with friends again.

February is the month when subscriptions are renewed, and members this year were given a new “Welcome Information Sheet’ along with their Membership Card, as well as a sheet detailing, and giving tips on our up and coming competitions throughout this year. We do hope that you will find all the information provided helpful, especially if you are considering having a go at our competition, which we hope you are. We have very few members in our Novice and Intermediate classes and it would be lovely to have more members join in.

As you know, we are going to be organising some workshops this year for our club members and visitors, and are busy working away on this. Details of the dates and classes will be posted here on our website and on our Facebook page.

For our February meeting we were delighted to welcome back David Thomson. David was last with us for our 2012 Chairman’s Luncheon.

For most of the evening we sat spellbound, in total silence all in awe of the fabulous and inspiring arrangements that David was creating. In fact, he more than once, had to check we were all still there as we were so quiet.

I think Anne, in her Vote of Thanks summed the evening up perfectly. She said that the arrangements that David had created and the colours and flowers that were used were fabulous, and that it is not often that she is inspired so much that she just wants to go home and ‘get on with it’. I know what she means, I felt exactly the same. I sat scribbling all evening taking notes on the many tips and flower varieties that were used. Having never produced a monochromatic design before, I will definitely be doing so in the future.

I am pleased to say that David has allowed us to post 2 photographs online for you all to see – the only problem was choosing which 2 !

COMPETITION: This month’s competition was “All Foliage Arrangement” (variegated may be used).

Unfortunately we only had 5 entries this month, and these were all in the Advanced class.
